System Shock Preview – PC Format

I’ve got in a couple more lengthy sessions on Wing Commander Saga but it still continues unabated. The Behemoth is no more so I ought to be well over halfway now but I’m only guessing. I’ll have Legend Of Grimrock vying for my attention later today also but I’ll leave it alone until I finish Saga.

That can only mean more magazine scans for now and I’m not quite finished with the July 1994 PC Format yet as it also contains a short preview of System Shock:-

As an added extra that really doesn’t warrant its own post, here is something no home should be without; a pack of Origin playing cards presumably provided for the developers use when they could manage to get away from their desks:-

Wing Commander 3 Preview – PC Format

Here are some more scans from the July 1994 PC Format of a look behind the scenes of Wing Commander 3. It’s mostly the usual “interactive movie” hype that was going around at the time before the backlash against FMV kicked in about a year later.

Right at the end it mentions that there was a plan to release a movie and a game simultaneously in the future by filling in the gameplay bits with new footage. It might have needed to be a mini series but it’s a pity this never happened as a Wing Commander 4 movie would have been a whole lot more fun than the one we ended up with:-

Shadowcaster CD Review – PC Format

I’ve not played any WC Saga in a couple of days but will be putting that right straight after I post this. Today it’s a very brief review of the CD version of Shadowcaster from the July 1994 PC Format. Most magazines I read back at that time would do these short reviews of CD versions of games since they had usually barely changed from the original. It really should have mentioned the extra levels that were added but the score is generous enough:-

Since the review was so short, from the same magazine here is an EA advert for their forthcoming CD titles (half of which were Origin games):-

I’ll also give quick mention to the first part of a Matt Chat Youtube video with the Fat Man aka. George Sanger who should be a familiar name to Origin fans since he did the music for Wing Commander, Savage Empire and Ultima Underworld among many other games. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Pacific Strike Review – PC Format

This review comes from the June 1994 PC Format. It’s reasonably fair on the whole although in a fit of political correctness the reviewer does devote the first 2 columns to the “racist” tones of the storyline, ironically taking an anti-American stance in the process:-

Privateer : Righteous Fire Review – PC Zone

Wing Commander Saga is still keeping me occupied so I’ll just add another magazine scan today. Having said that I wasn’t great at flying an Arrow, the Saga designers seem determined to make me fly the whole game in one. I have got a lot better with the practice and am making decent progress but I expect I’m not even halfway through the missions yet.

Back to the scans anyway. This is a review of the Privateer expansion Righteous Fire from the May 1994 PC Zone:-
